The Attic: Justin Armstrong Interview

Welcome to the Attic, interview edition!

justinarmstrong2A little while back I wrote about Ouija Experiment, and how much I loved it. Our amazing duo that handles our twitter account sent out a tweet, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Justin Armstrong (@justnarmstrong), who played my favorite character Michael, retweet it. I decided to reach out to him and offer an interview for our little budding site here, and he very kindly agreed to.

Justin, thank you so much for joining me here to do this interview, it is greatly appreciated. I’d like to start off by asking how you got your start in the movie business?

Thank you for having me for this! I am excited!
I got my start in the business with Ouija Experiment actually. I always wanted to be an actor and when I saw the casting I made my move and landed the role.

Did you always want to act?

Ever since I was little. I have heard it from people as well. I actually just got a message the other day from a family friend and she reminded me of a conversation where she was encouraging me to get into acting right after I graduated from High School.

I believe you also have some directorial and stunt experience under your belt. Which do you aspire to do more of: act, direct or stunt work?

I definitely aspire to act. I love to do stunts and will absolutely be doing my own in any future roles. As for directorial work I actually don’t have any yet but can see myself wanting to travel down that path a little later.

What was the most fun project you’ve ever worked on?

Ha, that’s actually hard to say! Ouija 1 was such a blast and it was my first film. And getting to work with such talented people like Zinna Moore and Eric Window was what made that film so great to be a part of. However I really feel like I have the most fun on every set when I get to lose myself in a character and bring them to life.

Do you have any advice for people looking to get into the movie business?

Be positive. Be persistent. Never stop training. Be humble.

Now… on to the movie that sparked this interview: What had you most interested in the role of Michael in Ouija Experiment?

Well like I said earlier being that it was my first film I was interested right away at the prospect of a speaking role in a feature film. And getting to play the character that starts everything and is, you could say, ultimately responsible for it all. It only got better from there once I found out that that it’s actually based off of true events in Israel Luna’s, the directors, life.

Were you excited to act in a scary film? Is this the first one you’ve done?

Yes and yes.

What is your favorite movie genre? (Please tell me you’re a horror fan yourself! HaHa.)

Definitely horror/thriller and action/adventure. And secret spy shit. I dig that stuff and can’t wait for the opportunity to play that role.

When I was a kid, I was raised on classic horror cinema. My earliest introduction was Psycho. What was the first horror film you remember watching? Do you have any favorite horror movies?

The first one I can remember is probably Child’s Play. Terrifying! Haha I’ve always loved good scary movies and I remember that one being especially creepy for me.
Some favorites…. IT, The Exorcist, Amityville Horror…

We always hear about creepy things happening on set of scary movies. Did anything spooky or unexplained happen on the set of Ouija Experiment?

Ummmm…. Nothing notably creepy on my end, but there was one weird thing. The part where Michael comes into the kitchen and the glass is on the ground rocking. It was actually rocking back and forth on its own, for a while. No assistance or tricks. So that was kinda strange.

This is one I have to ask, have you ever used a Ouija board yourself?

NO…are you crazy!?

What do you think the ever-popular streaming services like Netflix and Hulu do for indie movies? Do you see them as a better way for smaller titles to gain an audience?

I think that they definitely help with exposure. I mean Ouija Experiment has been on Hulu’s Most Popular list for over 3 months now. That means more and more people will get to watch it that without Hulu would never even know it was a film.

If you haven’t noticed, most of us at Enthusiacs.com are gamers and comic book fans. When you’re not filming movies, what hobbies do you enjoy most?

Being a father keeps me plenty entertained haha. If I am not playing with my son then I am probably golfing or playing poker.

Speaking of comic books, who is your favorite superhero?

Iron Man. Big fan of Tony Stark.

You recently tweeted about Ouija Resurrection (or the alternate title Theatre of Death), which is a upcoming sequel to Ouija Experiment. It is being released on January 13th, 2015. What can you tell us about this next film and how it ties in to the first?

I can tell you that unlike the first one which was done without a script, improv. This one is scripted. It has a lot of new faces, all of whom are wonderfully talented actors. Just remember the Sheriff. As for how it ties to the first, well you’re just gonna have to watch it!

That’s not the only movie you have coming out next year, is it? Tell us about Inhumane, and when is it coming out?

Inhumane is a film we just wrapped in October. I play an inmate named Brad, who is, let’s just say, dark. It is a psychological thriller about an experimental drug trial performed on inmates. It is gonna be a real ride! It has some very talented individuals in it as well. Michelle Money (@moneymichelle) who plays the main doctor, Rachel, Jason Richter (@jasonrichter_) who plays another doctor for the study, Aaron, Dimitrius Pulido and Matt Martin (@matthewmartin89) who also play inmates.
No release date just yet but I will be tweeting any information as soon as I get it.

Do you have any other upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

Working on a film with Brittney Winkle called Saving Hampton Grace. She is currently writing the film that follows Hampton (Brittney) and Walker (myself) down a path of passion, darkness, temptation and discovery. It should be quite the film. Looking to start production Spring 2015. And I just received a script the other day that someone would like me to consider, so I am reading that now.

Finally… I must ask, dear sir. What do you think of kale?

The plant?

Justin, thank you again for joining me. Please keep in touch with us here, and we look forward to seeing all of your future work! Best of luck in everything you do!

Thank you! I am glad we got to do this and I appreciate you taking the time to give me this interview. To all my friends and fans thank you for your ongoing support.
Stay blessed!

And that wraps up my first ever interview for Enthusiacs.com. I hope you enjoyed getting to know Justin a bit better as much as I did. He is one awesome person and I truly wish nothing but the best for him.

Stay scared,
