Hello Enthusiacs I am the Lord of Shadows and today I come to you with a question. What is about dreams that fascinate us? It is one of the few realms that is still completely unknown and yet we must travel to it every single night. Some tell us that it is where our subconscious goes to play. Others claim it is the window into our desires and fears. Through dream both good and bad we can experience anything. From flying though the clouds on silver wings to hiding in a closet hearing the beast come for you, and all inbetween.

That leads us to this weeks feature. A Nightmare on Elms Street. Yes long before he was a power glove wearing joker Freddy Krueger was one of the most terrifying villains in the horror genre. In life he was a child murderer who escaped the law through a technicality. This lead to the child’s parents forming a mob to enact their own justice on Krueger.

He was caught in his home and burned alive. However this wasn’t where his story ended but rather where it began. He became far more powerful in death. Able to enter the dreams of people and turn them to his own twisted desires.

The parents however blissfully unaware believe they have saved all the children from Krueger. Our story begins years down the road when Krueger is ready to enact revenge on the children of those who killed him.

The first movie sets Krueger up not only as a villain but as an unstoppable killing machine slowly murdering an entire group of students in progressively brutal ways. That is until one girl decides she knows how to fight him. She believes if she brings him into our world he will lose his powers.

We are lead to believe this works until the end when we see that Freddy is defeated and the people he killed are alive. Until things begin to go wrong. Then we see his pattern on the car our heroes are in showing us that this is in fact a dream and Freddy has survived Killing out main characters mother pulling her body through the front door of her house.

But the story itself isn’t what makes this movie last so long. Main thing people remember are the effects as many of them hold up even today. This is because they were all done practically so even if something didn’t look good you could still feel the weight behind it as their was something there.

This movie is actually credited with making people talk about their dreams more often than they had before. This has lead to many people coming to the conclusion that their dreams mean something. Now I am no doctor but in my own life I have never been able to find any meaning toward the several dream I have had that I remember.

The story of Freddy Krueger didn’t end with this adventure he would haunt the dream of many generations all the way to the series reboot in 2011. Krueger has become a horror icon. More so because of this film than the multitude of cheese that came after.

Until next time I am the Lord of Shadow saying

Stay Scared my friends
