Dishonored Death of the Outsider – Vega Goose review

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

This game came as a big surprise as I had assumed it would be a DLC for Dishonored 2 but no, this is a stand alone title. It is a feature rich game that could have easily been packaged as Dishonored 3. Lasting well over 6 hours (12 if you take both branches) it’s amazing that you get this much value for such a reduced price.

For a budget title this game has some impressive visuals possibly even better than the full 60 dollar Dishonored 2 release. On top of that the enemy A.I. has received a massive upgrade resulting in much smarter enemies while never feeling unfair, with one notable exception I will get to later.

The level designs also were incredibly fun and interesting mixing in some of the best levels in the series. Allowing for multiple styles of play from full out berserk to stealth ninja.

It also maintains the element of no kill. Something most games like this wouldn’t bother including but yes you can play the entire game and not kill anyone.

That’s not to say the game is flawless. The story is frankly weak. The gameplay is what will keep you playing because they have decided to take the most annoying characters from both Dishonored and Dishonored 2 and give them their own game. Now granted that is a subjective statement; maybe you really do care about these characters in which case the game will be that much better for you.

The only other complaint is in regard to the final level however I will attempt to explain the issues without spoilers as this is a fairly new title.

The game introduces new enemies and new level design counter to the entire rest of the game thus screwing you over if you didn’t build for pure combat. This can be frustrating if you enjoy playing it as a stealth title akin to Thief (The original, not the reboot); mind you, it isn’t impossible it just slams you into a difficulty cliff.

But those are the only complaints I could come up with. The controls are tight, the new powers are fun the gameplay is solid 90% of the time and despite my own complaints about the main characters the ending of the game is very satisfying.  Whatever ending you go for makes you hungry for another trip to the world of Dishonored. On top of everything it’s not even a full price title.

If you enjoy the Dishonored series you owe it to yourself to give this a go.

Thank you very much and I hope you enjoy it
