Point Streak Podcast: Quick Time Events
Point Streak. Given there is scarcely a gamer that doesn’t have a strong opinion on this subject, it is surprising we didn’t get to it sooner. This time, we sink our teeth into Quick Time Events. Perhaps one of the most over-used mechanics of modern gaming history, it follows cinematic style games like a punch-line follows a set-up. Why has it become so common? Join us as Jeff, Jen, Greg, Vernon and Goose vent at surprising length about QTEs:

Point Streak is a podcast where we discuss varying topics involving the gaming industry. Jeff (Baron Fang) selects a team to handle some topics that either are avoided by others or aren’t popular enough to be discussed by mainstream video game news. It is, indeed, a podcast based on opinions and should be taken as such.
Something else that I find off-putting about QTE’s – It over-extends an otherwise short played game. I mean, if you mess up a QTE, then have to reload and play an additional 3 minutes here, 2 minutes there, how much time would you have saved on game completion if you didn’t have to?
Those small reload moment add up the longer you play after all.
Also, Vega kinda hit it on the head: It’s like they think that if we’re not hitting a button every 5 seconds, we’ll loose focus. I loved that “like jangling keys” comment.
