I think the biggest thing I didn’t like about this was how Goku became a god. Standing there for a couple minutes while his friends stood in a circle and gave him energy positively reeked of Captain Planet, and is at odds with always striving to get better through training yourself to go past your limits.
Hell, Freeza in the very next movie gains even more power simply by training and not using any lame magic rituals.
Yeah, that was weird. I didn’t quite like it either for the same reasons you said. It kinda steps on the thing that we, as kids, took away from it. Keep training and practicing, and you’ll get stronger. Always push yourself… but this is the universe where we have mystical balls that summon a dragon that magically grants wishes. There are also magical fusion earings, limitless power ups, and ki energy to melt your face off, so I guess the ‘God ritual’ wasn’t that bad.
