The Attic: 10 Of The Best YouTube Horror Shorts

Sitting for hours and binge-watching YouTube horror shorts has been one of my favorite pastimes for years. There are a plethora out there to discover, and while many are incredibly cheesy, some are downright brilliant. So, I decided to come up with a list of just some of my favorites. Here are, in no particular order, 10 of the best YouTube horror shorts I have ever seen:
This one really intrigued me. Snap isn’t in english, but it doesn’t need to be for you to get sucked in. It was short, sweet, and didn’t rely on jumpscares to get under your skin.
I have watched Bedfellows more than most horror shorts, and it still gives me chills. To this day, if I get into bed in the dark and my husband is there, I need enough light to make sure it’s him before I crawl in. I’m not even joking, Bedfellows sticks with you.
There is something utterly unnerving about hearing the voice of a loved one call out to you, and realizing it isn’t them. I Heard It Too is fantastic, chilling, and a joy to watch.
Five Minutes Earlier
Five Minutes Earlier is very subtle with its fear, but I appreciate that. This short’s scariest moment is quiet and still, and it’s brilliant.
Lights Out is probably the most famous YouTube horror short, and not just because there is a mediocre movie based off of it. This one is by far one of the scariest, and will never get old. You can check out my review of the film here.
While we’re on the topic of bad movie spin-offs, the Mama film was so bad I almost didn’t watch this short. However, the other day when I was telling my friends about working on this, my horror short partner in crime told me it was worth the watch. He wasn’t kidding, this is probably one of the best there is.
CREEPIEST VIDEO ON THE INTERNET…
Yeah, don’t ask me about the title… All I know is that I love this one! It’s similar to the “There’s No Such Thing” horror short by Daywalt. I felt like Daywalt’s was a bit too predictable, and this one surprised me with its twist ending.
Red Balloon is hands down one of the best quality horror shorts I’ve seen. It’s based off of an urban legend, and one of my favorites at that. Completely terrifying and well crafted, this is what it’s all about.
This short might not be for everyone, and that’s ok. Personally I loved it, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Similar to horror movies we have seen before, The Cop Cam doesn’t present us with anything new. However, it still gave me the serious creeps, and I had to put it on this list.
Like Red Balloon, Vicious is on the longer side, coming in at 12 minutes, but it felt perfectly paced. You can tell that they really put a lot of thought and effort into this one. Definitely one of the scariest. I adore this short, and that last shot? It is simply terrifying!
