Hello Enthusiacs I am your Lord of Shadow and today we go back to 2007. One year before Vampires would be completely defanged by the Twilight “Saga” The stage was set for one of the more gory entries into the vampire film genre.

30 Days of Night tells the story of a small town in Alaska plunged into darkness as the sun will not rise for a month. During these 30 days we see a gang of Vampires, lead by a man named, Marlow, attacking and eating the town. However unlike most “monster” vampire movies these creatures fight intelligently.

They begin by cutting the power to the town cutting the town off from all help. Creating a large pen filled with food. Through out the film we see these beast slowly pick the town clean. This leads to some incredibly sad scenes and is used to great effect making us not only care for the survivors but fear these vampires and see them as a real threat. This is where the monster aspect of the film comes into play.

These vampires are scary for a simple reason. The movie doesn’t treat them like traditional vampires. They aren’t “sophisticated” and elegant killers. These things are literal beast. The few times when people decide they want to fight just show you exactly what would happen if a regular human fought something this powerful.

So the remaining people in the town have to hide from these beast and form a plan to either escape or die trying. This is where the main human, Eben, comes into the role of the hero. This takes up nearly two thirds of the film. It’s kinda like a vampire version of an alien film. Then we find that one of the survivors is infected and our hero Eben decides if he infects himself he can fight the vampires leader. He hopes that by killing him the rest will scatter.

This leads to a final battle between the Eben and Marlow. The final battle is awesome and again they do a good job of showing us what would happen when these super powerful things fight.

Then once the battle is over the remained vampires flee as their leader is gone and the sun is rising the 30 days are coming to an end. The movie ends with a very emotional moment when Eben says his goodbyes assuming that the vampire infection will eventually turn him into a beast. So he meets the sun.

This movie is an amazing adventure from beginning to end. It is good horror better story, and the acting is top notch.
