Hello Enthusiacs! I am your Lord of Shadows and today we are talking about a book series…….NO. Don’t you dare click that x!!! We are talking about an excellent book series, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

The Dresden files follow the life of Harry Dresden, a wizard private investigator living in Chicago. Now let’s get started with a look at the main characters.

Harry Dresden is the first wizard in the world to openly advertise his magical services, and as such is constantly mocked by folks who believe magic is make believe. However he does get work with the Chicago Police Departments Special Investigations, which is a branch of the Police who are given cases that can’t be solved.

Due to a few demons in his past, some literal, he is under the doom of damocles. Think of this like wizard parole. There are 8 laws of magic and in most cases breaking them is a capital offense. However in some rare cases the person is given a second change. Harry is one of these people.

Karrin Murphy is the leader of C.P.D. Special Investigation. Something you should know about S.I. is that being placed on it is basically a punishment. If a cop starts talking about things that can’t possibly exist they are pushed into S.I. So it was with Murphy when she ended up battling a troll in downtown Chicago and refusing to back down when told that was impossible.

It was Karrin who began hiring Dresden to help her with certain cases. However she is still hesitant about him as she doesn’t know much about him and his powers.

The first Novel “Storm Front” does an amazing job of introducing the world and setting up a lot of future event paid off in other stories. It’s does a wonderful job is bringing you in and the writing is some of the best I have ever seen in the genre.

In the story Dresden is brought into a case involving very dark magic. Two victims have had their hearts ripped from their bodies. This leads Dresden on a long chase across the Chicago to find the murderer. However there is another twist.

A warden of the White Council, think wizard police, named Donald Morgan believes that Dresden is the one using dark magic, and if Dresden doesn’t prove he is innocent then it’s off with his head. So needless to say things are a little tense.

I honestly don’t want to give much more away than I already have. This is a story you need to read with as little spoilers as possible.

So this Halloween I highly advice you pick up a good book and enjoy a thrilling adventure through the streets of Chicago.
