The Attic: Happy Halloween!

Welcome to the Attic, Happy Halloween!

Orange and red leaves falling, breaking out the hoodies, bags of fun size candies, and pumpkin flavored/scented everything everywhere you look. It all leads up to this day, Halloween. Does it get better than this for horror fans and ghost story buffs? No, it does not. Everyone loves to be scared once in a while. It’s a thrill like none other to sit and hear a ghost story around a campfire or kick back on the couch and watch a scary movie. It’s a rollercoaster ride, and I can’t get enough of it.

I love hearing more about the history of Halloween.. so what better than to watch a special on that done by the History channel! Grab some mini candies and a blankie and enjoy!

Didn’t carve a pumpkin yet? No worries! I found the most amazing site where you can print out patterns, including many of the most loved horror icons like Michael, Jason and Freddy. Below is my favorite!

Dawwww it’s Sam! He’s so cute!!

Wait, let’s just clarify this… you DO know who that is right?? ….No? Shame on you! And go watch Trick ‘r Treat now because it is absolutely fantastic. It is the best movie to watch today aside from the classic Halloween series. I can’t say enough good things about this, except that it is scary, the little guy is absolutely adorable and disturbing as hell at the same time. Plus, guys, Anna Paquin is in it. It blows my mind how few people have even heard of this film. I believe it was only shown at indie events before it was released on DVD, but that’s almost better because it lowers your expectations. While Halloween is THE movie that people associate the holiday with, this one explores myths and legends surrounding the day and its lore. It weaves four different tales into one, in a seamless and fluid way that is not easy to pull off.
That leads me to my next point. These are the movies you have to watch every year around this time, not in any real order:

1. Halloween
2. Halloween II
3. Halloween H20
4. Trick ‘r Treat
5. Hocus Pocus (don’t judge me!)
6. Nightmare on Elm Street
7. Friday the 13th
8. The Exorcist
9. Paranormal Activity
10. Psycho

Not feeling into watching movies? How about the entire series of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? This series brings me back to my younger days. I feel all warm and fuzzy and nostalgic to my afternoons nomming on poptarts and spacing out at the TV.

If you’re headed out trick ‘r treating with little ones, chances are you’re gonna need a stiff one when you get home. Even if you’re not, and you’re like me and a true Halloween is spent wallowing in front of the TV, you need something to sip on. Check out these themed drinks from HGTV to have tonight. This drink, however looks the yummiest (pictured below).

No matter what you’re doing tonight, I urge you to be safe, drink heavily yet responsibly, and always… I repeat, always…

Stay scared,
Dark Princess
