The Attic: Silent Hills

Welcome to the Attic, where the Hills are alive with the sound of Kojima.

Ok, that was cheesy. But what’s NOT cheesy is all of the recent news surrounding “P.T.”, which has now been revealed to be a playable teaser to the upcoming Silent Hills. The news of a collaboration of Hideo Kojima (Vice President of Konami and Director of Kojima Productions), Guillermo del Toro (a legendary film maker), and Norman Reedus (a badass) has shaken the gaming world recently.

It started with a teaser to a demo of a game simply called P.T. being announced at Sony’s GamesCom. The buzz surrounding this new experience of a playable teaser is exactly what the Silent Hill franchise needed. It helped that at the time, people didn’t know for sure what the game even was. They just knew this demo of sorts was scaring the pants off of everyone.

Check out this awesome video of Japanese girls being scared silly while playing:

Onto the scary, this is VERY interesting. Watch this YouTube video of a clip of the PT. Make sure you read the translation in the comments below. It appears this may involve some Little Green Men:

I’m not sure if the topic of aliens will play heavily into the full game itself, or if they’re just looking to get us creeped out in general while we wait, and then take a classic Silent Hill game from there. But the mention of “drama” on the radio 75 years ago being true clearly points to the hysteria that exploded after the broadcast of Orson Wells’ War of the Worlds. It’s interesting to say the least, for a Silent Hill game to rely heavily on the topic of extraterrestrials, but if it’s done right, I’m down for that. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a Silent Hill game took the concept of aliens into their story lines. Many of the previous games in the franchise have had alternate endings involving abductions, as well as hints that the little guys exist in the SH world.

I for one, am thrilled at the spark that this is creating in the gaming world. It’s been a long while since a Silent Hill game (or any horror game) has gotten this much buzz going. More news will surely come soon, but as for now I’ll sit back squeeing at the excitement of it all.

Here is a great article from about the P.T. and some really cool GIFs that show off the uber creepy scenes. As if I wasn’t dying for a PS4 already… who wants to buy me a present??? 🙂

Stay scared,
Dark Princess

I really hope this turns out to be as good as the playable teaser makes it out to be. What I’m most interested in is Reedus’ character. I want to see how well his voice acting can be, especially if he is trying to portray fear in his voice, because Daryl ain’t never scared!

Now the only question is, do I go back and do a retro marathon of the original titles, or play this first and then go retro? I could see merit to doing either.
