One Response to Hero Talk Podcast – Robocop (2014)

  1. Axalon says:

Awwww, didn’t know this one was happening. Wish I had more time at the moment.

The ED-209 scene at the beginning can be explained due to the fact that the ED-209 doesn’t have a stun gun, it’s basically a robot tank on legs. The smaller ones (EM-208s) don’t have stun guns either. Rococop has a taser pistol in addition to his other gun, but he’s the only one. The warehouse scene where he’s fighting a bunch or robots and the one guy in the exoskeleton for a combat test was all with live ammunition.

So the kid’s choices were to drop the “dangerous” knife, or get shot by a giant robot.

The incident does actually get brought up again in the U.S. Senate hearing on whether or not to allow Omnicorp’s robots to work on American soil. They don’t specifically call it out as “Hey, remember that thing that happened in Tehran”, but the senator against it brings up the “unfeeling robot shooting a child” argument after we see one get gunned down on national television, which leads to them developing a more “human” Robocop to circumvent the law.
