Welcome to the Attic. ch, ch, ch, ah, ah, ah

That’s right, folks! Jason is coming back for more, and this time, he’s planning on hacking up both the big and small screens. First we’ll look at this, er, re-remake. I’m a bit baffled, but let’s discuss it anyway.

Paramount and Platinum Dunes (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2003 & Nightmare on Elm Street, 2010) are working on a new F13 movie, but it’s not continuing the last remake.. it’s a new remake. Because WB let go of the rights to the franchise, and Paramount picked it up. Got it? Good.

As Screen Rant reported, it’s been mentioned that Jason may not be in it. Of course, as we all know, he wasn’t really in the original either.. So this could be the return of Mrs. Voorhees being the killer in the first installment, unlike the previous film. It was originally set with a March 2015 date but has now been pushed back to November. As we all know, a F13 movie is super complicated and requires lots of planning. What’s a Jason to do? Oh right, stalk and kill those having sex. Moving on..

I’m happy PD has control over this. Who better? Michael Bay knows what he’s doing. I loved both the Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes, both of which were produced by Bay. It only seems natural that F13 gets the same treatment. I was lucky enough to get passes for an early screening of the Elm Street remake in Los Angeles, with Bay in attendance. At the end we filled out questionnaires on everything from favorite scenes to rating each actor’s performance. I was very pleased with the end result on that film, and seeing how they listened and tweaked things. If you’re going to trust horror remakes in anyone’s hands, I trust his.

As also mentioned in the above Screen Rant article, it is rumored that this remake will take on the ever popular found footage theme. I’m not sure if there’s any truth to this, but personally I’d love it. I think it could be amazing if done right. Teenagers head to Camp Crystal Lake in search of the urban legend, with cameras in tow… Sorry, having a nerdgasm. To be honest I doubt they will go that route, and my favorite go-to horror site bloody-disgusting.com has flat out denied that will be the case. We’ll see.

As of now, no director or cast have been announced.

On to the television series…

No doubt riding the coattails of the uber popular Bates Motel on A&E, a dramatic hour-long TV series is being set for Friday the 13th, with original director Sean Cunningham as executive producer. So far, we do know that it will take place in Crystal Lake, and Pamela and Jason will be very much involved in the main story line. In a Bloody Disgusting exclusive interview, when asked about which style variance Jason will appear in, Cunningham said that “Jason Voorhees will be an integral part of the series and he will definitely be ‘in character.” It’ll be interesting to see this series play out, and if it’s nearly as good as Bates Motel, I will be one happy camper. *snicker*

I’ll be keeping an eye on this, as well as news on the remake. One has to wonder if they will tie-in, being announced so close together… hmm. Also, two words, Kane Hodder?

Stay scared,
Dark Princess

I can’t be the only one hoping this movie turns into a cross over with the new Freddy film from a few years back. Freddy Jason 2 damn it!

I’m not a fan of the found footage style, mainly because most films, especially horror, tend to overuse the shaky cam and that gets annoying real quick.

Otherwise I think it would be cool if the movie were an actual re-telling of where it all began. I had no idea the mother was ever the focus or even a killer at one point!

Yeah, found footage tends not to be scary BECAUSE it’s found footage. It’s like they’re trying to scare you with perspective, but it just comes off as amateur.

        Yep! Mrs. Voorhees is CRAY

Vtuitt, I agree for the most part, but when it is done right (Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity, etc) it adds an amazing level of immersion

I haven’t seen Blaire Witch, but Paranormal Activity was not scary.
