The Attic: Five Nights At Freddy’s

Welcome to The Attic, don’t forget to check the cameras.

Has it been a long time since you had a really good scare? Are you missing the good old days of classic funhouses and mazes where you maniacally giggle and scream at the same time? Then look no further than Five Nights At Freddy’s. For many women, they need a good cry every now and then. For the Dark Princess, she needs a good fright. A almost-pee-your-pants, jump out of your skin fright. I honestly haven’t felt this in so long that I almost forgot how good it felt.

Five Nights At Freddy’s is a pretty basic game by nature. You are a new employee at a kid’s joint (Think Chuck E. Cheese) and have been hired on to work security during the night shifts. Your goal is simple: to survive 5 nights in a row between the hours of 12AM to 6AM. To do so, you must keep a close eye on the security cameras. Why, you ask? Because the animatronic animals come alive at night and want to kill you.

You have a few tools in your belt, but no weapons. This is no shooter, after all. No, all you have at your disposal are security camera shots to keep an eye on these pesky, killer furry beasts. You do want to jump around on these, as it keeps them at bay a bit longer. Should they get closer to your location, you have two doors on either side of your room to shut in emergencies. There are also lights to look into the darkened hallways just outside. The trickiest part of this game is that you have a limited amount of power and you must ration it out carefully. Everything from viewing camera feeds, to closing doors, to turning on lights uses valuable power that you have to use sparingly. Otherwise, you will inevitably watch your life flash before your eyes as the lights around you shut off, and the hum of a nearby fan cuts off. Trust me, you don’t want to know what that feels like.

I can’t stress enough how terrifying this game can be. It sounds so simple that for the longest time, I had no interest in even giving it a try. Recently I have been quite bored and gave it a shot on a whim late one night. I probably spent almost 2 hours on it. You lose, a lot. Each night gets harder than the last, and I am currently stuck on night 5, which is obviously the hardest. But I can promise you that you won’t mind. Each time you have to restart a night, it turns out differently, which lends itself to many playthroughs in your future. And it’s good to note that once you pass a night, your progress is saved. So, when you go back into it, you have the option to start a new game or continue at the night you last progressed to. I love that. Otherwise it would be maddening to start all over.

There's no shame

There’s no shame

Five Night’s At Freddy’s has both terrifying jump scares, but also lots of chilling moments as well. Some of the scariest parts are the giggles, grunts, footsteps, and bangs. I don’t want to spoil too much, I’ll just say that sometimes you’ll see something coming and only have seconds to shut a door. Other times, you won’t see it coming until it’s right in your face. I can’t rave about this game enough. I know I’m late to the party, but if you haven’t played this yet, and you have balls of steel, I say go download it now. It is currently available on ios and Android devices, as well as Steam.

Stay scared,
Dark Princess

Can’t you just keep the doors shut?

    • Dark Princess says:

Nope. As I said, having them closed uses up your power, and that shoots down quickly when the doors are closed. It’s a very scary time when you have to close the door, but then realize they have to open whether you like it or not. It’s a balancing act, which only heightens the fear every time you play.

And I just realized that wasn’t very clear. Thank you for asking so that I could clarify 🙂 Having lights on, viewing cameras, and having doors closed all sucks up energy. It’s TRICKY. FYI I am still stuck on night 5, lol.

I guess you’re going to have to work extra hard to make it through five nights… at Freddy’s 😉

I describe myself as a dragon, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a punk when it comes to horror. I applaud you guys for being able to take the tension.
