Hello Enthusiacs my name is Vega Goose and if you know anything about me you will know I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have been for almost two decades. So you might have guessed I was looking forward to seeing The Force Awakens. Now I will begin spoiler free and give a clear spoiler warning when I get to where I go into them.

This movie fulfilled everything I wanted in a Star Wars sequel. It had the action, the drama, the heavy darkness, and even the comedy exactly when it needed them. It had actual character growth, and more development in the first ten minutes than the prequels had in six hours.

The acting is fantastic from everyone. Not a single performance detracts from the whole of the picture. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, and Adam Driven are names that you will be seeing for a good long time.

From start to finish this film is amazing. I’m sorry to say it but Star Wars is in better hands now the George Lucas has stepped away.

As you know we here at the Enthusiacs do not rate movies with numbers but I will say Star Wars: The Force Awakens is absolutely perfect. Now for those of you not looking for spoilers thank you and we will continue after the jump.

You have been warned. Now let us begin talking about Finn. Finn is the character that shows the true horror of the first order. Because they not only commit horrible atrocities against other nations, but they commit them against their own people.

Look at the stormtroopers. People raised from birth to do nothing but fight, not even given a name, but a number. Not even able to remove their helmet when at their own base without permission. Through Finn we see that these troops are not even people in the eyes of The First Order.

Through his first battle we not only humanize storm trooper, which is really something, but we also give Finn a reason to begin his character arc of the film. This opening scene also introduces Poe Dameron. Poe is an expert pilot who is taken by the First Order. The two work together to escape the base in a funny and exciting scene that shows that they are in a way connected. Fast friends to say the least but not feeling forced.

While I wished we had gotten more Poe on screen but what we got established him for future films and left us wanting more.

Rey, now where do I start with Rey. She is introduced in a very well done section just showing what she does day by day to survive. This allows us to connect with her as a normal person in the Star Wars Universe. Almost and NPC if you understand my meaning. However through Finn and the new droid BB8 she is tossed into the wider world.

Through most of the first half she isn’t a super soldier army of one. She’s a terrifed NPC wanting to go home. This also helped her connect to us as that’s what we would do. However when the moment comes and she has to step up she not only does she does so in a realist way, well as realistic as a setting with space magic and laser swords can be. By the end we have come on the adventure with her, and we really want to see what she will do next. I await her next moves with great interest.

Then we have our new Villain, Kylo Ren. Adam Driven delivers a acting clinic in this role. He is immature when he needs to be, he rages when needs to, he is menacing when he has to be. However he isn’t Vader 2.0 In fact he is if anything Anakin done right. He is extremely powerful but untrained and unskilled. He is a child with a handgun. He can do great things once he knows what he is doing.

Finally we have to talk about the moment the bottom dropped out of the film. The Death of our beloved smuggler, Han Solo. This scene brought me to tears and was one of the most well done scenes in the entire film.

This is a dark movie, one of if not the darkest in the entire franchise. That was the entire point of the movie to show that yes the rebel’s defeated the Empire, but they didn’t save the galaxy. It has a very Knights of the Old Republic 2 feeling to it in that respect.

As you can tell I loved this movie and even if you have made it this far I have not spoiled everything.

I am Vega Goose and Star Wars is back!

May the force be with you.
